WhatsApp will soon let users re-download deleted media

WhatsApp will soon roll out a new feature, which will allow users to re-download deleted pictures and videos.

The Facebook-owned platform is testing a new feature on its beta application that will let users re-download deleted media such as pictures, videos and GIFs. A report by WABetaInfo states that it is available in the app’s 2.18.113 version.

According to the report, when a user downloads media, WhatsApp does not delete it from its server, allowing the user to re-download if a file gets deleted accidentally. Earlier, the social media messaging site stored un-downloaded media files for 30 days and upon downloading, they were deleted from the app’s server.

If the update is launched officially, users can only retrieve media dating back to three months. However, according to Mirror, only Android users will be able to make use of the new update.

Even though the news came amid Facebook’s data breach scandal, WhatsApp has assured that with its end-to-end encryption, the data shared between two users is secured. The service claims that not even WhatsApp itself can access those messages, reported Gadgets 360.
