Apple store evacuated after iPhone 6S Plus catches fire

Seems like it’s not exactly the best time for Apple, as first it dealt with the numerous lawsuits and now an iPhone device caught fire during a battery replacement that led to evacuation from the Apple store.

Due to the issues about slowing down the batteries intentionally, around 26 lawsuits were filed against the company. Apologizing for that, Apple offered to provide a discount on battery replacement making it cost $29 from $79.

Many people took advantage of the offer. However, during the process of battery replacement, one of the iPhone 6S Plus caught fire, which led to all employees’ and customers’ evacuation from the store.

Lawsuits filed against Apple rise from eight to more than 26

The incident occurred when an Apple employee was in the middle of removing battery from an iPhone 6S Plus at Apple’s store in Zurich, Switzerland. The phone caught fire and smoke started coming from it. Immediately, 50 people, including customers and employees, had to leave the store, while fire extinguishers, ambulances and police were called right away.

Reports suggest that no serious injuries occurred, however, the employee working on the device faced minor burn injuries on hand. He, along with seven others, was treated in the called ambulances on spot, with no need to hospitalize anyone, wrote Phone Arena.

Apple Insider reported that as per the police, the staff responded well and correctly. "It sprinkled quartz sand over the overheated battery so that the smoke could be contained and sucked out after switching on the ventilation,” the police said.
