Android is most likely the widely used operating system in smartphones today. However, turns out that it is not as secure as compared to iOS and Windows.

Nokia launched its 2017 Threat Intelligence Report, which stated that Google’s Android devices are more likely to be infected in comparison to the other prevailing operating systems. According to the report, Android even crossed Apple in providing the least-secure platform even though Apple’s iOS 11 is recently facing troubles for its bugs.

Google all set to launch Android 8.1 Oreo

The statistics provided by Nokia’s report stated that almost 68.50% of Nokia’s devices that function on Android platform were infected by different malwares and security threats in the past year. Windows operating system came in second with 27.96% of infections and 3.54% infections on those systems running on iOS, wrote Tech Republic.

The stats collect information gathered from Nokia’s security product, NetGuard – product made for mobile network operators that monitors network traffic from more than 100 million devices across various continents, except for India and China, reported ZD Net.

The report mentioned that Android malware has increased by 53% over the past year. It warned the users to be alert because their private data could possibly be leaked to non-permitted applications.

Kevin McNamee, director of Nokia’s Alcatel-Lucent Kindsight Security Labs informed, “The Android platform is the mostly highly targeted by cybercriminals. Google has done an excellent job with Google Play Protect and they’re really securing the app infrastructure for the Android devices. The main threat vector for Android phones is trojanized apps.

“In the Android space Google has tried to address this by doing a good job securing Google Play. The unfortunate thing is that third-party app stores are so common in the Android space that nearly all third-party app stores need to bring security up to Google’s level to improve overall Android security.”
