ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made a soft launch of its new official bilingual mobile responsive website which is also compliant to universal web accessibility standards for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

The new Urdu version of website would contain same contents of English version converted into simple Urdu language with similar layout and design.

The aim of newly re-designed website is to provide content accessibility in Urdu language for which Urdu cc-TLD has been registered for facilitation of general public.

A senior official at PTA on Thursday said in the new website, statistical data of telecom indicators have also been re-shaped and user-friendly graphical layout has been introduced for easy navigation of key indicators data.

PTA believes that the new re-designed website would help in telecommunication information dissemination to people of Pakistan.

The official said as per the best international practices, the web accessibility standards for persons with disabilities have been introduced in website so that special people can also use the website without any hassle.

The primary focus behind the launch of new website is to provide easy access for content retrieval to people with disabilities for which input from the PWDs have also been incorporated.

For the facilitation of people with disabilities, an interactive toolbar has been introduced which includes features like text re-sizing, text-to-speech plug-in, magnifier and color contrast.

It is important to mention here that Special Talent Exchange Programme (STEP) and web accessibility experts provided assistance and support to PTA for endorsement of web accessibility standards.

PTA believes that electronic access of information will improve productivity and efficiency of PWDs. This would ultimately contribute to economic activities and bring benefits to the country.

PTA is committed to promoting freedom of expression and access to information in greater public interest. Single source facilitation website developed by PTA has a theme `connecting the un-connected' and to ensure access to content repository to information seekers from within and outside the country at one place.
