Brazil’s sugar output sinks in May

SAO PAULO: Sugar production in Brazil’s main center-south (CS) production region fell 24.8 percent in the second half of May, compared to the same period a year earlier, to 2.19 million metric tons, data from the Agriculture Ministry showed on Wednesday.

The ministry did not include any comment on the reasons for the fall, but parts of the region were impacted by rains that disrupted harvesting over that period.
