Lucky Cement, Pakistan’s largest cement manufacturer, has increased its annual cement production capacity to 15.6 million tons after commissioning a process optimisation and capacity enhancement project at its Karachi plant.

In its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) issued on Wednesday, the listed company shared that the project has enabled the company to enhance production capacity through the optimisation and modernisation of its existing cement lines.

“As a result, the annual cement production capacity of the Karachi plant has increased by approximately 300,000 tons, from 5,050,000 tons per annum to 5,350,000 tons per annum. Consequently, the company’s total annual cement production capacity has reached 15,600,000 tons, further reinforcing the company’s position as Pakistan’s largest cement manufacturer.

“In addition to the capacity enhancement, the project reflects the company’s continued commitment to operational excellence and sustainable growth,” it added.

Lucky was of the view that the project is expected to improve thermal efficiency, reduce specific fuel consumption, and lower coal usage per ton of cement produced.

“These efficiencies are also expected to contribute towards reducing the carbon intensity of the company’s operations while supporting the more efficient utilisation of resources.

“This milestone is aligned with the company’s long-term ambition to introduce innovative and efficient manufacturing processes, create sustainable value for its shareholders, and contribute positively to Pakistan’s industrial development and sustainability goals.”

Lucky Cement was established in 1993 under the Companies Ordinance, 1984 (now Companies Act, 2017). It is the flagship company of Yunus Brothers Group and is one of Pakistan’s largest producers and chief exporters of cement.

The company operates production facilities in District Lakki Marwat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Northern region) and the Main Super Highway in Karachi (Southern region). It also has liaison offices in cities like Islamabad, Quetta, Lahore, Multan, D.I Khan, and Peshawar, and its export markets include the Far East, Middle East, Africa, and South & Central Asia.

The cement maker has diversified investments in power generation, automobiles, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and mobile phone assembling through its subsidiaries.
