Police have arrested two sons of former prime minister Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan in Lahore.

A day after arrest of Shahrez Khan, the central Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Omar Ayub confirmed the arrest of Shershah Khan as well, condemning “these barbaric actions” of Punjab police and the “Hybrid Regime.

“Aleema Khanum sahiba’s other son Sher Shah was arrested by Punjab Police a short while ago. Strongly condemn these barbaric actions of Punjab Police and this Hybrid Regime. They can not suppress PM Imran Khan, his family members, and PTI activists. PM Imran Khan will be the Prime Minister of Pakistan InshahAllah,” he wrote on his X account.

Aaj News reported on Friday that Shahrez was arrested for his alleged involvement in the May 9 cases. He was later presented in the court today.

Police said that people involved in anti-state activities did not deserve leniency. “The law is the same for everyone, and the suspect will be presented in court in the morning,” they said.

May 9 riots: SC approves bail for Imran Khan in eight cases

It should be noted that Aleema had a day ago claimed that four masked armed men abducted her son Shahrez from her home.

She said that her son was on the upper floor of the house with his wife and father when the armed men, dressed in plain clothes, barged into the house through the kitchen. The armed men harassed the divers and family members in the house as well.

“Last night, several plainclothes armed men stormed my residence in Lahore. They brutally assaulted our staff, harassed my daughter-in-law, and forcibly took away my son, Shahrez Khan, in front of his two young daughters,” she wrote in a post on X.

Showing resilience amid hard times, Aleema said for over three years, the “fascist regime” had unleashed a reign of terror, raiding thousands of homes, abducting and harassing countless innocent civilians. “Yet, despite their brutality, they have failed to break Imran Khan,” she maintained.

“Our children understand that the struggle Imran Khan is leading is far greater than any one of us,” she said. Imran’s sister said her brother had set a remarkable standard of resilience against tyranny. These cowardly actions only exposed the fear and desperation of the oppressors, she asserted.

“We place our trust in Allah alone, seeking His protection and justice,” she wrote.

Several PTI leaders have lashed out at the government for arresting Imran’s nephew in such a manner.

Speaking to media in Islamabad, Aleema said her sister Noreen Niazi’s son Hassaan Niazi was already serving jail term of 19 years and her brother Imran was serving 14 years imprisonment.

Demanding to stop the “abductions”, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur: “After abducting one son yesterday now Aleema Khan’s second son Sher Shah has also been abducted by the fascist regime. There is no rule of law whatsoever left in Pakistan, attacking the family of Imran Khan shows their desperation as well as their shamelessness.”

It should be noted that just a day ago, the Supreme Court granted bail to PTI founder Imran in 8 cases pertaining to the May 9 mayhem.

Leaders of the embattled PTI have been facing multiple cases for their alleged involvement in the violent protests that erupted countrywide on May 9, 2023 following arrest of PTI founding chairman Imran in a corruption case.

Imran, who has been in prison since 2023 facing charges of corruption, land fraud and disclosure of official secrets, is also being tried separately on similar charges related to the riots.

The government accused him and other PTI leaders of inciting the May 9, 2023, protests, during which demonstrators attacked military and government buildings, including the army headquarters in Rawalpindi and Jinnah House Lahore.

The former prime minister denies wrongdoing and says all the cases are politically motivated to dismantle his party.
