One killed, child injured in blast in Karachi

One person was killed and a child sustained injuries in a blast in Gulshan e Iqbal area of Karachi, Aaj News reported on Wednesday.

Police and Rangers personnel reached the area. Bomb disposal squad was called in, and investigation about the nature of the blast was under way, police said.

As per initial reports, the deceased was identified as 17-year-old Farooq Rahman – son of a policeman – who was carrying a hand grenade that exploded in his hand, resulting in his death.

The incident occurred just around 12 hours left to the General Elections 2024.

Nearly 129 million registered voters in Pakistan are set to use their voting right tomorrow as the fifth largest democracy in the world will choose its rulers for the next five years.

Security is on high alert across the country, with increased number of terrorist attacks in 2024.

Earlier during the day, at least 24 people were killed and several sustained injuries in two separate attacks in Balochistan province.
