MEPCO introduces HHU for meter reading

Published December 19, 2012 Updated December 19, 2012 04:36pm

electricity---MULTAN: Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) has introduced a latest technology for meter reading called "hand held unit" (HHU) which keeps pictorial record of reading.

The device was introduced with the cooperation of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), said Saqib Bilal from USAID programme, who was specially deputed to impart training to Mepco metre readers at Gulgasht sub-division.

Talking to APP, he stated that the device would surely help issuing actual billing and would help redress complaints about over-billing.

He said that after taking reading of metres the data would be sent to computer office of MEPCO Revenue office for billing.

He claimed that the facility would also keep consumers satisfied, adding that it was launched first time in power sector in Pakistan.

He said that it was launched on parallel bases for a period of three months under commercial procedure and then would be handed over to the company. He added that the parallel bases system would help the department to check the reading separately.

He further informed that the metre readers have been given some 26 codes to detect faulty metres.

He said that seven trained metre readers from USAID were also deputed with MEPCO metre readers for guidance.

He said that the system would be extended to other sub divisions of MEPCO.
