pak-rupees 400ISLAMABAD: Representative of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) Punjab Action Committee has appealed the government to withdraw various taxes imposed on agriculture tube well.

Addressing a press conference here at National Press Club, President of Kissan Ittehad Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar said that flat rate of Rs6,000 as fixed for Balochistan should be fixed for Punjab as well.

Secretary Muhammad Aslam, Legal Advisor Muhammad Fayyaz Advocate High Court and Central Leader Action Committee Malik Zulfiqar Hussain Awan were also present on the occasion.

He said PKI is an organization of small farmers and is active for the rights of the farmers of South Punjab.

The President said that country's economy is based on agriculture and around 70 percent of the population is directly and indirectly linked with this important sector.

He was of the view that agriculture has major contribution to the development of developed countries but unfortunately this important sector was ignored by all the governments.

Anwar said the government should take action against elements that are producing substandard agricultural medicine, adding the middle man, sugar mills and textile mills were exploiting the farmers.

He said that for economic development and prosperity of the country, promotion of agriculture sector as well as farmer's prosperity is essential.

He also demanded that PKI should be given representation in Trading Corporation of Pakistan and asked government to decrease interest of agricultural loan from 18 percent to 5 percent.

He demanded that administration appointed on political bases in agricultural markets committee should be replaced with clean people.

The PKI head said according to market law, Punjab Agriculture Produce Market 1978 Ordinance should be restored and that the administrators should be appointed through consultation with PKI.

He appalled the government to fix 40 kilogram sugar at Rs300 and withdraw sale taxes on fertilizer, medicine, tractors and agricultural equipments.

He said fertilizer should also be sold to farmers at Rs500 per bag.
