mushaid-syed-ISLAMABAD: Politicians, civil society, defence forces and media should join hands for addressing multiple problems being confronted by the country, Chairman Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production Mushahid Hussain Sayed said on Wednesday.

 

Addressing a Public hearing on a topic titled `Civil-Military Relationship' in Pakistan Institute of Parliamentary Services (PIPS), he said Pakistan is persistently changing and country's political leadership needs to perform and deliver to sustain and strengthen the process.

 

Pakistan has dynamic civil society, independent media, vibrant Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) there is more space for civil leaders to deliver and perform, he said.

 

In the debate a total of 26 prominent personalities participated including seven parliamentarians.

 

Mushahid said Pakistan Army was fighting for the existence of the country. Civil leadership was providing persistent help to military leadership in the war against terrorism.

 

Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi said that it was not possible for a single political party to control the country.

 

Pakistan needs a sustainable counter terror strategy.

 

Former Secretary Syed Salim Abbas Jilani said military is mandated to protect the borders of the country. The only way to avoid military intervention was to deliver and ensure good governance in the country.

 

Chairman Islamic Ideological Council Maulana Muhammad Khan Sherani said all and sundry should join hands to make the country prosperous.

 

Lt Gen (Retd) Salim Haider, Senator Sehr Kamran, Senator Haji Adeel, Senator Mohsin Khan Leghari, MNA Khurram Dastigir Khan also spoke on the occasion.
