Rs.4bn for quality flour to people at low rates

LAHORE: The Punjab food department is spending a hefty amount of Rs 4 billion for ensuring the provision of low-cost and quality flour to people.

A spokesman for the department said on Monday that a 10 kg flour bag was available at Rs 230 in Ramazan bazars while in open market it was selling at Rs 240.

Over 280,000 flour bags of 10kg and 326,000 of 20kg were being supplied in 324 Ramazan bazars across the province daily, he added.

He said that flour samples were also being taken regularly to ensure quality.

He said Rs 825,000 fine had been imposed on 93 flour mills as their product was substandard and their quotas and licences were also cancelled.
