MULTAN: Agriculture experts urged growers to complete sowing of seasonal maize from July 15 to August 15 to get good results.
In a release issued here Tuesday by the agriculture department, they suggested that fertile land be selected and hard crust be broken through deep ploughing.
Sow disease-free and pesticide treated seed and suggested sowing of a hybrid variety FH-810 which gives 90-100 maunds per acre during Kharif season and 100-120 maunds per acre during Rabi season.
Around 12-15 kg seed per acre is required for sowing through drill and 8-10 kg for sowing on ridges.
Seeds should be sown in rows having 2.5 feet distance among each other. Two and a half bag of DAP and one and half bag of potassium sulphate be applied at the time of sowing in case of weak land.
Do not leave the crop water stressed from flower to fruit stage. First water be applied three to four days after sowing and then give water when needed.
Remove weak plants when they attain height of 4 to 6 feet.
