According to a survey, the prices of fruits have increased during past few weeks, while those of vegetables have showed decreasing trend particularly in the weekly bazaars.

A number of customers complained that shopkeepers were violating price lists issued by the local price magistrates.

According to rate list issued by Capital Development Authority DMA, apples are being sold at Rs200 per kilogram, bananas Rs60 to Rs120 per dozen, melons Rs20 per kg, water melon Rs16, strawberries Rs160 per kg, Mango Rs56 to Rs 90 per kg, apricot Rs60 to 66 per kg and dates at Rs150 per kg.

While the prices of vegetables have decreased as tomatoes are being sold at Rs20 per kilogram, lady finger Rs36 per kg, potatoes Rs126 per five kg, bitter gourd Rs30 per kg, green peas Rs40 per kg, turnip Rs24 per kg, red pumpkin Rs18 per kg, ridge gourd Rs30 per kg, spinach (750 gram) Rs12 and brinjal at Rs10 per kg.

It may be mentioned here that the fruit and vegetable vendors are still selling both commodities on high rates in various areas of the city, giving the reason that there was a shortage of the commodity.

Shoppers said most of the vendors are selling fruits and vegetable without displaying rate list and overcharging people on their own.

They said the rate of weekly bazaar and open market are different due to these reason. He appealed concerned authorities to adopt proper plan and take appropriate measures to restrict vendors from overcharging.
