Ehsan Mani rules out pay cuts in PCB despite loses due to COVID-19

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani has ruled out any laying off, furloughing or even forcing pay cuts on its playing staff and employees despite suffering huge losses due to coronavirus pandemic.

With most of the sporting event around the world suffering from the novel COVID-19, PCB seems to be lucky as most of its home season was done before the outbreak.

Despite estimated losses of $5.2 million, PCB Chairman has ruled out laying off, furloughing or even forcing pay cuts on its playing staff and employees to balance the books.

In a video message he said, “Cricketers are the biggest stakeholders in Pakistan cricket and I want to assure everyone, that there interests will be safeguarded in best possible manner.”

"The players and employees are the priority of the PCB here. The PCB is nothing without its players and officials," Mani said.

He also hinted at shuffling of staff during PCB’s restructuring, but denied any type of redundancy. “Staff won’t be redundant, but normal changes would be made as per our policy as we are restructuring PCB, which has already begun.”

Mani also said that the board will not be altering contracts of domestic crickets, but they will be renewed after consultation of selectors.

“There will be no unusual cuts,” said Chairman PCB. “As far as performance based contracts are concerned, they are not in our domain, they are referred or recommended by our selectors.”

He also clarified that former players will continue to receive monthly pensions.

“All retired cricketers are getting their pensions,” he said. “We have to look after our former cricketers. If anyone is in distress, they know, when they contact PCB, we go out our way to help them.”

“We did it in past and we would continue to do so.”
