The lowest price offered in the international tender from Tunisia's state grains agency on Thursday to purchase up to 117,000 tonnes of soft wheat was believed to be $227.19 a tonne c&f for optional-origin supplies, European traders said in initial assessments.
No purchase has yet been made and results are expected later on Thursday, they said. The offer was believed to have been made for 25,000 tonnes by trading house Bunge, they said.
This was followed by offers for other shipment positions including $228.95 a tonne c&f and $230.98 a tonne c&f which was made as an "all or nothing" offer for several positions. The lowest offers in the tender for 50,000 tonnes of animal feed barley also sought by Tunisia on Thursday were assessed at around $200.12 and $200.45 a tonne c&f.
The agency does not always take the lowest offer if other conditions connected with the offer are seen as unattractive.
The wheat was sought in four 25,000 tonne consignments and one of 17,000 tonnes with shipment said to be between March 20 and May 25 depending on the origin selected for the supplies. The barley was sought in two 25,000 tonne consignments for shipment between April 25 and June 5 depending on origin.
