  • The US Secretary expressed his desire to play a pivotal role in the development of Pakistan.
  • There are investment opportunities for US businesses in Pakistan, says Dawood.

Utilizing Pakistan’s strategic location, US companies can use the country as a manufacturing hub for their products and export it to other countries, said advisor on commerce Abdul Razzak Dawood during his meeting with his US counterpart Wilbur Ross on Wednesday.

US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross arrived in Pakistan today on an official visit, during his meeting with Dawood issues related to bilateral trade and investment opportunities on both sides were discussed.

The US Secretary expressed his desire to play a pivotal role in the development of Pakistan and said that Pakistan needs to increase bilateral trade volume with the United States.

Speaking on the occasion, the advisor to PM said that special steps were being taken to provide a conductive environment for business. There are opportunities for investment for US businesses in Pakistan, he said.

Dawood said that a large number of Pakistani products did not benefit from the US-based GSP facility, but these products, including textiles, should also be provided with preferential trade.

Pakistan can benefit from the transfer of experience of US companies, added Dawood.

Earlier, Ross tweeted that he is looking forward to meet Prime Minister Imran Khan during his visit.

“As President Trump said this week, ‘our relationship with Pakistan is a very good one.’ I look forward to meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad today on ways to boost trade and investment between the U.S. and Pakistan,” the advisor tweeted.
