Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) based weekly inflation for the combined income group during the week ended January 16 witnessed a reduction of 0.18 percent against the week ended January 9, 2020 while on an annual basis it witnessed an increase of 20.02 percent, said SPI data released by Pakistan Bureau of Statistic.

The SPI on week on week (WoW) basis for the week under review for combined income group was recorded at 132.08 points against 132.32 points of the preceding week, the PBS revealed. The PBS further revealed that on year on year basis, SPI for the combined income group jumped by 20.02 percent from 110.05 points to 132.08 points.

The data for weekly SPI is being collected with base year 2015-16 covering 17 urban centers and 51 essential items for all expenditure groups.

The SPI for the lowest income group with monthly income up to Rs 17,732 witnessed a decline of 0.43 percent from 135.82 points to 135.23 points during the week under review and on YoY basis it went up by 18.76 percent from 113.87 points to 135.23 points, PBS added.

For the income group of Rs 17,732-22,888, weekly inflation registered a reduction of 0.34 percent from 131.51 points to 131.06 points and on annual basis it witnessed an increase of 19.76 percent from 109.44 points to 131.06 points.

For the monthly income group of Rs 22,889-29,517, the SPI went down by 0.23 percent from 133.21 points to 132.91 points and on annual basis it went up by 22.52 percent from 108.48 points to 132.91 points. Weekly inflation for the income group with monthly income of Rs 29,518-44,175 witnessed a reduction of 0.17 percent from 130.28 points to 130.06 points and on annual basis SPI for the above income group went up by 21.82 percent from 106.76 points to 130.06 points.

For the income group of Rs 44,175 or above monthly income groups, weekly inflation went down by 0.13 percent from 134.22 points to 134.05 points and on annual basis SPI for the income group witnessed an increase of 19.08 percent from 112.57 points to 134.05 points.

During the week under review, average prices of 7 items registered decrease, 27 items' prices witnessed an increase and prices of 17 items remained unchanged.

The prices of the commodities that recorded decrease in their prices during the week under review included tomatoes, LPG cylinder (11.67kg) onions, eggs, potatoes, rice basmati and sugar.

The items, which recorded increase in their average prices included chicken farm (live), bananas, wheat flour, washing soap, garlic, gur, pulse Masoor, pulse Moong, cooked beef, powdered milk, pulse gram, long cloth, shirting, pulse Mash, cigarettes, tea cup, beef, georgette, mutton, vegetable ghee, rice irr-6, toilet soap, cooking oil, mustard oil, fire wood and vegetable ghee (2.5kg).

The commodities that observed no change in their prices during the week under review included bread, milk fresh, curd, salt powder, chillies powder, tea, gents sandals, gents sponge, ladies sandal, electricity charges, gas charges, energy savers , march box, petrol super, hi-speed diesel and telephone calls.
