Asad Umar being appointed planning minister, says Awan

• Khusro Bakhtiar will be appointed as federal minister for petroleum.
• Awan says a notification in this regard will be issued shortly.
• It is expected that portfolios of some other ministers will also be changed.

(Karachi) PTI leader Asad Umar is likely to return to the cabinet as the government has decided to appoint him as the planning and special initiative minister, Special Advisor to PM Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Monday.

In a tweet, Awan confirmed that Asad Umar will be given the portfolio of the planning and special initiative minister. In addition, she stated that Khusro Bakhtiar will be appointed as federal minister for petroleum.

She said that a notification in this regard will be issued soon.

Earlier, during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) parliamentary committee meeting, Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced his decision to change portfolios of some his ministers. It is expected that portfolios of some other ministers will also be changed.

On April 18, Umar has stepped down from the position of finance minister. Before his resignation, he was offered the energy division; however he had turned it down. Later, Hafeez Shaikh took charge of finance ministry.

The reason behind Umar’s stepping down as finance minister was stated to be his failure to effectively manage the finance division and bad economic policies.
