Pakistan makes impressive strides in open source development

Coding is the way to future and it seems that Pakistan is on the right track, as it has been ranked among the top countries that showed fastest growth in open-source development around the world.

As per the world’s largest hub of source code GitHub’s latest survey The State of the Octoverse, Pakistani developers are now some of the community’s biggest contributors, with the country showing some of the fastest growth in open-source software projects.

Pakistan was placed fifth with 41 percent growth on the list of countries that recorded the highest percentage growth in open source projects, sharing the spot with both Greece and Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Nigeria topped the list with an impressive growth of 59pc. Whereas, Iranian developers had the second-highest growth in open source projects created in public repositories, stated the US company which provides hosting for software development version control using Git, .

Pakistan was also among the top ten countries in terms of total contributors (developers that share their codes at GitHub), grabbing the 9th place with an increase of 71pc. Hong Kong remained at the top of this list for the second year with an increase of 175pc.

The subsidiary of Microsoft, further stated that over the past year, some 10 million new developers joined the GitHub community, contributing to over 44mn repositories across every continent on earth.
