ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday invited United Nations chief Antonio Guterres to visit Azad Jammu and Kashmir and also urged him to pay a visit to Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOK) and take cognisance of the grave situations due to continued lockdown.

Speaking at a news conference, Qureshi said that he held telephonic conversation with secretary-general of United Nations and apprised him of the grave situation due to the continued curfew and communication blackout in the occupied valley in the wake of Modi government’s illegal actions of August 5.

“I wanted to draw his attentions to the evolving grave situation in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir, and call upon him to full his responsibility”, he said, adding that the UN has a responsibility to stop the illegal Indian steps that violate the UN Security Council resolutions.

He said that he urged the UN chief to play his role to avert worst humanitarian crisis in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir. “I apprised him that Kashmir people are expecting the international community to play its role. If they [international community] failed to play its role, the Kashmiris will be forced to use all options to resist the highhandedness”, he added.

Qureshi said that the UN chief stated that his ready to play his role and also expressed the same on many occasion, but unfortunately, India is not ready for any such role.

The foreign minister further said that the UN chief should visit both sides of Kashmir to take cognisance of the situations. “We are ready to welcome him in AJK and would also like the Indian to do the same. We are also ready to facilitate his visit wherever he wants to go”, Qureshi further stated.

He said that he also bright in attention of the UN secretary-general that India may stage a ‘false flag operation’ to divert the world’s attention from the real situations in the occupied valley.
