Appreciating the Prime Minister Imran Khan's move of forming a high-level committee for resolution of Karachi issues, Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar on Wednesday said the body would come up with recommendations of short, medium and long-term measures for the betterment of the metropolis. He was talking to the media on his visit at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah on his death anniversary.
Waseem said that forming a committee was a better option, however, "To solve the problems immediately, we need urgent measures," he said.
Deputy Mayor Syed Arshad Hasan, chairman District Municipal Corporation Central Rehan Hashmi, parliamentary leader in city council Aslam Shah Afridi and chairmen of city council committees were also accompanied.
He laid a floral wreath on the grave of Quaid-e-Azam and wrote his observations in the visitor's book.
Mayor said he has been making efforts for the last six months, requesting the Sindh government and the federal government to extend their cooperation to solve the city problems, but none of them showed seriousness. He said after losing hope in getting support from the provincial government he approached the Prime Minister and briefed him on these problems and their solution in three meetings and also urged him for immediate implementation.
