KMC will develop the 62-acre Kidney Hill (Ahmed Ali Park) in KDA Scheme No 32 under the directive of the Supreme Court. The foundation-laying of the park will be held after Eidul Fitr and also after removal of encroachment from the land of the park and preparation of the PC-1 of the project.
It was decided in a meeting chaired by Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar and attended by Deputy Mayor Syed Arshad Hasan and Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman. Senior director anti encroachments Bashir Siddiqui, director coordination Masood Alam, director land Shaikh Kamal, director estate, legal adviser Azra Muqeem and other officers also attended.
The meeting was held to review the anti-encroachment action being conducted in the city under the directive of the Supreme Court. It also decided to initiate major action to remove all commercial and welfare activities from city footpaths and edges of main roads.
The meeting was told that five illegal bungalows and other structures were constructed on the Kidney Hill Park land. The meeting decided that notices would be issued after marking the space and the squatters would be directed to vacate the extended portion of their houses or these would be demolished by the anti-encroachments staff.
Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that the Kidney Hill Park would be made the best park of the city. He said anti-encroachment action continued in Gulshan Iqbal, Hasan Square, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Nazimabad and other places. All restaurant owners were warned to remove all their stuff from the pavements and roads or these would be seized by the anti-encroachment department.
Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Syed Saif-ur-Rehman said that welfare organisations had removed their stuff and sheds from foot paths after they received notices; however, at some places their stuff and sheds existed so far. Therefore, the anti-encroachment department has been directed to take action and restore the footpaths for pedestrians.
