Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided the establishment of its own transmission and distribution company like Discos of Wapda for supply of electricity generated in the province. For the purpose, the provincial government has planned to approach Nepra to obtain a formal license for the establishment of the proposed company.
The decision was taken in 30th Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) held here with Board of Directors (BoD) chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan in the chair. This year, 74 MW electricity generated by 4 hydro power stations of the province will be connected to the national grid that will generate an annual receipt of Rs 1.9 billion for the province.
The provincial government is also going to sell 18 MW power to industrial area, generated by Pehur Hydro Electric power plant for uplifting the industrial sector of the province.
The meeting also approved PEDO budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2019-20. The board members expressed dissatisfaction for not presenting the annual audit reports in the meeting and warned the concerned officers that they should present all audit reports by August this year.
The board recommended the regular appointment of PEDO chief as soon as possible for smooth functioning. While establishment of its transmission and distribution company instructions were issued to submit the report to the Technical Committee.
It was discussed in the meeting that in the current year 36.6MW electricity from Daral Khawar, 17 MW from Ranolia, 18 MW Pehur and 2.6 MW from Machai Hydel Power Plants would be included in the national grid.
In the meeting, PEDO Board chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan urged to make PEDO and its Board stronger. Moreover, the board decided to make special reforms and said that they will negotiate with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister and Advisor to Energy and Power for further consultation in this regard.
Besides Secretary Energy and Power Engineer Sarfaraz Durrani, the Additional Secretary Finance Akhtar Saeed Turk, Deputy Secretary Home Akmal Khattak, PEDO Chief Executive Officer Bahadar Shah, Abdullah Shah, Fawad Ishaq, Arbab Khudadad, Musawar Shah, Abdul Sadiq, Dr Hassan Nasir and General Manager Hydel Engineer Zahid Akhtar Sabri attended the meeting.
