Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi Monday telephoned his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif and informed him that two C-130 loaded with relief goods will immediately be sent to Iran to help the flood-affected people.
According to Spokesperson Foreign Office Dr Mohammad Faisal, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi telephoned Foreign Minister of Iran Javad Zarif to convey the grief of the government and people of Pakistan on the situation created by unprecedented flash floods in Iran, leading to loss of valuable lives and properties in the brotherly country.
Qureshi expressed heartfelt condolences and prayed for the eternal peace of over 70 people who have lost their lives due to this natural disaster. Foreign Minister Qureshi reassured his Iranian counterpart that Pakistan stand by its Iranian brothers and sisters in this difficult hour and would provide support required by Iran to address the humanitarian crisis.
"The foreign minister informed Zarif that as a gesture of goodwill the Prime Minister has instructed two C-130 plane loads of relief goods to be sent immediately to Iran's Ahwaz and Khorumabad," the spokesperson said, adding that the relief assistance by Pakistan would aim at meeting some of the urgent needs of the flood-affected population in Iran.
He said that the Iranian foreign minister thanked Foreign Minister Qureshi, adding that Pakistan and Iran were bonded in close historic linkages and that the people of both countries have always stood by each other at difficult moments feeling and sharing the mutual pains.
Earlier through tweets, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal stated that Pakistan is ready to extend humanitarian support to Iran in rescue efforts.
"People of Pakistan stand in solidarity with their brethren in Iran at this difficult time...Pained by continuing devastation & loss of life caused by flash floods in Iran.
