The two-member bench of the Supreme Court (SC) dissolved on Tuesday to hear the case related to removal of encroachment from metropolis after Justice Muneeb Akhtar excused to hear the case.
The two-member bench comprising of Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Muneeb Akhtar was to hold the hearing on the encroachment case. However, the hearing was put off for indefinite period.
The Supreme Court had issued the orders for removal of encroachment from Karachi. The dissolved bench was seized with the task of overseeing the implementation of orders for removal of encroachment.
Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar and former City Nazim Naimatullah Khan turned up in the court for the hearing of the case.
Meanwhile, two-member bench of the SC held the hearing on a petition related to Sindh Works & Services' employees, whose seniority was affected. Engineer Wadho Mill and Akhtar Dawch of Works and Services Department moved the court against depriving them of promotion.
The petitioner submitted before the court that Sindh Arid Zone Development Authority (SAZDA) was dissolved in 2003 on the ground that it became "den of corruption". Its employees were put in surplus and subsequently were inducted provincial Works & Services Department.
The inductions of employees of defunct SAZDA in Works & Services affected the seniority list of employees of the former.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that apparently the departments are created for dissolution. Referring to spending of Rs 108 billion in Thar area of the province, Justice Gulzar Ahmed said that such a big amount was spent in one area, however not a single glass of clean drinking water could be provided to the people of the area. The court ordered to provide the copies of the petition to the parties concerned.
