Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Friday launched a month-long special drive 'Clean, Green and Courteous Railways.'While addressing the launching ceremony at Rawalpindi Railways Station, the minister said that he will himself oversee the campaign to ensure its success across the country. The campaign 'Clean, Green and Courteous Railways' has been launched from February 1 to February 28 with planting trees and spreading messages among the passengers to adopt tolerance and patience.
Under the campaign, cleaning drive will be held at platforms while trees will be planted on railway stations across the country. The railways staff has been directed to behave with commuters with courtesy and serve them with best services. A complaint cell has been set up at the Ministry of Railways to improve the services and end corruption and malpractices.
The minister said that he will travel to Lahore, Faisalabad, Narowal, Sialkot, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta during the campaign that would focus on cleanness at all railways stations and platforms. Rashid on January 20 asked the railways officers to interact with the passengers in a good manner. He said that railways is a means of transportation for the poor, hence their facilitation should not be ignored. He said that tree plantation will also be ensured along the railways tracks to advance Prime Minister Imran Khan's idea of 'Clean and Green Pakistan.'
The minister said that the Pakistan Railways will be turned into an efficient, modern and profit earning public service utility. He said that ticketing system will be further improved showing zero tolerance towards ticket-less travellers. He said that tracker system will soon be installed in trains to enable the citizens to track the timings of trains through their mobile phones. Rashid said that the salaries of railways police will be enhanced equal to that of Punjab Police.
The minister said he knows why Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif met with the National Assembly speaker, adding that he will go to the court against issuing of production orders during remand. He said that there will be two public accounts committees; one will work under the chairmanship of Shahbaz Sharif while he will lead the other. He further said that Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari have looted public money and seek bails on the basis of medical grounds. Replying to a query, he said that chief minister Punjab has issued directives for construction of Leh Expressway and work on it will start soon.
