Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has expressed his keen interest to become member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to ensure accountability of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership. The Minister was addressing a press conference on Saturday at Railways Headquarters. The Awami Muslim League leader said: "I will write a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan, asking him to replace any of his members with me in the Public Accounts Committee."
He once again announced to challenge PML-N leader Shahbaz Sharif's appointment as the PAC chairperson before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. "We can't allow a cat to guard milk. The man who is facing 121 cases should himself feel ashamed of probing others," he said.
Rashid said he had requested the premier to inaugurate new trains. As many as 100 new shops and a new shopping mall would be built at Rohri railway station, he added. He said after 15 days police would also be allowed to check tickets at any railway stations across the country. The Pakistan Railways has also decided to introduce ticket gift schemes for frequent travelers, he added.
In order to benefit the patients travelling in the trains, new medical stores will be opened at major railway stations which will remain open round the clock, he maintained. He said reservation offices will remain open 24 hours. Pakistan Railways sold 41,000 extra tickets during month of December, the Minister added. "We have constituted investment board to attract private investors in various sections of railways," he asserted.
