Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will issue the list of candidates for the province of Punjab after Eid, said sources. The party's parliamentary board met with Asif Zardari in the chair to finalise candidates for Punjab as well for the city of Lahore. Among those having been short-listed for the city of Lahore are: Samina Khalid Ghurki, Aslam Gill, Aurangzeb Burki, Amjad Jutt, Jamil Manj, Asim Bhatti, Zubair Kardar, Chaudhary Zaheer, Adil Mohyuddin and Zahid Malik.
Sources said Zardari has been involved with the provincial party leadership for over four days to finalize the list. He interacted with proposed candidates, interviewed them and assessed their potential with the help of provincial party set up.
The provincial leadership of the party conveyed to him message of party workers, seeking the fielding of Bilawal Bhutto from the city of Lahore in the upcoming general elections. How, no immediate response of party co-chairman was available with the sources on this very pertinent desire of party workers.
Meanwhile, PPP is facing trouble in finalizing potential candidates in central Punjab and the possibility of obtaining substantial number of seats is very dismal. Sources further claimed that former President of PPP Punjab Manzoor Wattoo was also contesting elections independently. However, no immediate confirmation of the same was possible despite repeated attempts to contact Wattoo for his version.
Presence of PPP in leading districts of Punjab is becoming thin with fast improving popularity of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), as former voters of PPP are seemingly committed to vote for PTI in 2018 general elections, party sources apprehended.
