Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Authority (KPFA) in a special crackdown before Eid on Thursday imposed heavy fines and discarded bulk of adulterated food items in different operations carried out across the province. According to the spokesperson Attaullah Khan about Rs one million of fines were imposed in a massive operation being carried out against sweets, bakers and confectionaries.
While giving details the spokesperson added that 10 bakery outlets have been sealed in Peshawar while Rs five lacs of fine imposed over non-compliance with food safety standards. Similarly, team Mardan sealed a fake beverage factory and discarded 5000 liters of misbranded and fake cold drinks.
The same team has also inspected twenty bakery outlets and sealed three bakeries on bank road Mardan. Khan also said that Swat team has also sustained the same pace of operations by inspecting all the three tehsils of Swat regarding sweets and confectionaries. Team Bannu visited substandard beverage industry at kala Kaley DI Khan road and found misbranding & unhygienic conditions.
Unit has been sealed & equipment's confiscated. Same team visited ice cream unit at Roshan DI Khan road. Low grade food ingredients found. Unit has been sealed & fine imposed. In the same crackdown, team Abbottabad imposed a fine of Rs two lacs over bakeries on violation of food safety standards in various areas of the district.
KP Food Authority team in D I Khan inspected bakeries, sweets and Halwa shops as per directions of Director General Riaz Khan Mahsud. The team sealed, imposed fine and issued improvement notice to various sweets and halwa outlets. Besides, this 500kg of Halwa and 350kg of Gulab Jaman and Russ Gullas were discarded at the spot. While four bakeries were found in reasonable conditions, therefore, license notices were issued to them.
