The protesting workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended their sit-in protest on Sunday after party chairman Imran Khan'a assurance of their reservations regarding the alleged neglect of qualified workers in award of tickets will be addressed.
The angry party workers from Jaranwala, Bannu, Attock and Chakwal reached Banigala on Saturday where they started a sit-in protest out side the residence of Imran Khan against what they believe that the party had ignored qualified candidates in awarding the tickets for upcoming general elections.
However, the party sources told that PTI chairman Imran Khan on Sunday invited the delegation of the protesters for a meeting in which they agreed to wind up the protest after getting assurance that their reservations would be addressed.
They told that the delegation apprised the party chairman about the reservations of the workers regarding the recent distribution of tickets and neglecting the genuine and deserving candidates.
On this, the sources said a committee led by party's central secretary-information Naeemul Haq was formed to thoroughly investigate the allegations and address the grievances of the workers.
They said if deemed necessary, the PTI would review its decision on award of tickets in some constituencies to address the reservations of the workers.
Earlier, the protesting workers told media persons that the party had not issued tickets on the basis of merit and that the leadership needs to take notice of the alleged favouritism in award of tickets. They were also protesting against the issuance of ticket to Ghulam Sarwar Khan from NA-59, as they wanted Ajmal Raja to be fielded from the constituency in Rawalpindi.
They were also holding placards and chanting slogans in favour of their demands.
Meanwhile, Imran Khan will leave for Saudi Arabia today to perform Umrah and after his return, the sources told that he would be presented the report of the committee.
