Askari says 'aliens' a political narrative being used to garner voters' support
The caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Prof Hasan Askari on Saturday said that 'aliens' is a political narrative and political parties use different narratives to garner support from voters. He said this while responding to a query raised by media during his visit to poet-philosopher Allama Iqbal's mausoleum, here on Saturday. He offered 'fateha' and laid a floral wreath on the mazar of Allama Iqbal. Prof Hasan Askari also penned down his views in the visitor's book.
Talking to media on the occasion, Prof Askari said, "You all know what is 'aliens'; it is a political narrative because different people communicate their messages for their political needs and political interests. The basic objective is to get more votes. They (parties) want to win elections and form the government. Aliens is part of the same political narrative that is used by different parties."
Answering a question, he said that professionals will be inducted in the interim cabinet which will be small and non-political. He added that conducting free and fair elections is the duty of the caretaker government. He said the district administration will be asked to provide equal opportunities to all political parties in the elections.
To another question, Askari said that neither he had any political agenda in the past nor have it now. "All the doubts will be eliminated after witnessing our performance," he said, adding: "It is the responsibility of the interim governments to facilitate the election process."
Askari said the second basic responsibility of the interim government is maintaining of law and order and provision of peaceful environment for voters. He said elections strengthen democracy and the interim government provides cooperation for the election process.
He said the interim government has the limited time and scope, and in these limits we will avail if we got chance for the betterment of the people. Prof Askari said visiting the mausoleum of Allama Iqbal is a matter of pride for him and the government of Pakistan has set up Iqbal Chair in the Heidelberg University of Germany where he had discharged his duties for three years.
Answering another question, he said he had a connection with media and his link with media will continue in future, and media persons should be happy that a person who has connection with media and literature has been made the interim chief minister.
Answering a question, he said, "Our performance will restore confidence of political parties in us and their doubts will be removed. We will work in neutral status within legal limits and will provide equal opportunities and facilities to all political parties."
