Former president General Pervez Musharraf (retd) on Saturday has got nomination papers through his counsel to contest the election to National Assembly from Karachi constituency NA-247.
The counsel for Musharraf acquired the nomination papers from the Election Commission of Pakistan office after Supreme Court allowed Musharraf to contest the election on the condition he would appear in person before the court on June 13. Former army chief Musharraf has been living in London for the last two years.
After the 2018 delimitation, the NA-247 constituency (Karachi South-II) comprises of the Clifton Cantonment Board, Defence, Karachi Cantonment, Saddar and Arambagh area.
Tough competition is expected for the seat as several other political heavyweights are contesting election from the same constituency. They include: JI Karachi chapter's chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, MQM's Farooq Sattar, PTI's Dr Arif Alvi and PSP chief Mustafa Kamal.
Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (PIB) leader Dr Farooq Sattar submitted nomination papers to contest the election to National Assembly from three constituencies NA-241, NA-245 and NA-247 Karachi. "It will be decided later whether I will contest for one of these seats or from some other constituency," Farooq Sattar said, talking to media persons. He said the party is still facing restrictions regarding political activities as they had not yet been given their party offices back.
