Mujahidullah Afridi, primary accused in the Asma Rani murder case, was transferred to police lines, here where he was presented before the media on Sunday. Addressing media persons at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines here, Kohat DPO Abbas Majeed Marwat said Mujahidullah had already made plans for his escape to the United Arab Emirates before murdering Rani.
The DPO added two accused in the case had already been arrested, including the accused's brother Sadiqullah and close friend Shahzaib, while only Mujahidullah was at large. The police official said that Afridi was arrested from Sharjah. He had been changing his location in Dubai but the UAE state security succeeded to arrest him.
Afridi was extradited to Pakistan with the help of Interpol on Saturday. He was arrested at the Islamabad airport upon his arrival from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). "We requested Interpol through the Federal Investigation Agency to arrest Afridi when he escaped to Saudi Arabia," said Marwat. "We were in constant contact from day one with FIA, Interpol and UAE state security."
The police officer added that Afridi's facilitators namely Sadiqullah and Shazeb had already been arrested while the murder weapon had also been recovered along with the car used by the prime suspect to flee the scene of crime. "The recovered weapon had been sent to the forensic lab which confirmed it was the murder weapon." "The cooperation by UAE state security was exemplary," observed Marwat. "Afridi was extradited within three days of arrest."
