Rashid Latif says Sarfraz Ahmed should continue as captain till World Cup

Former Pakistan captain and wicket-keeper batsman Rashid Latif believes that there should be no change in captaincy in the team till the upcoming World Cup, which is scheduled to begin next year in England and Wales.

“We need to know if we have a backup captain and I don’t believe that there is any backup. We are going to play South Africa, then we will play against Australia and then against England, and later on is the World Cup, so I don’t believe that we have enough time to think among captaincy change,” said Latif, quoted Caught Behind.

Latif's statements come as cricket captain Sarfraz Ahmed is facing the heat after Pakistan suffered a 2-1 defeat against the New Zealand in the recently Test series at UAE.

After the defeat, distraught Sarfraz said that the team should find another captain, if they are losing because of him. "This Test series loss is not due to one person but it is the responsibility of the whole team, also mine as captain…. Whenever such things happen [losses], one does think like that [giving up captaincy],” said Sarfraz while talking to media.

"If Pakistan team is losing because of me, then I will probably think that I should move away and someone who is better at captaincy of the Pakistan team should come in," added Sarfraz.

Rashid was of the view that the ongoing uncertainty over captaincy can damage Pakistan cricket, including the locker room.
