Crunching peanuts in winter

Dry fruits are eaten in all seasons for their taste and rare qualities, but their demand especially in winter, despite their soaring prices, jump up. Sacks and packs of the dry fruits are eaten by the people to remain invigorated. They also garnish sweets. A mix of dry fruits (like akhroot, kaju, dried khobani and almond) is eaten by the school children in their lunch hours, things to mar their feelings of hunger. Guests invited to attend weddings are also given a packet of mix dry-fruits like almond, akhroot, kaju, dried khobani etc after Nikah is performed by the Qazi to congratulate the newly-wed couple.
Peanut is one of the most lovable dry fruits it is a legume and underground fruit of a tender stemmed vine. It is native to South America. Portuguese took it to Brazil, from where it reached Africa, China, Japan, Malaysia and India. It is now recognized as one of the most popular dry-fruit, valued for its hordes of benefits. It is the cheapest dry-fruit that the poorest can also afford. It is like an "apple" to the poor and eaten by the rich and poor alike.
Peanut is the best companion to pass idle time when watching TV dramas, cricket, football or hockey matches in a stadium and in moments of growing boredom of young and old alike, who are delayed to meet their friends in public parks at the given time.
Peanut earns substantial amount of foreign exchange to the exporting countries. Cracking of nuts becomes the order of the day, till in the cold evenings. Peanut fried in oil, roasted in hot sandy gravels, boiled in water, salted or unsalted is equally preferred by their lovers. It can be eaten at any time of the day, not only by children but the old also. The toothless people also take it after maceration.
Peanut is not only eaten for its pleasure, it has many other uses. It is used by the grower as a green-man to enrich their cultivated fields, with the atmospheric nitrogen contained in its root-nodules. It is a nourishing food. It is fed to hogs and live stocks in the new world, it is used to make margarine. Milk made from it is used to make curd (Dahi) by the milk merchant. Khal obtained after extracting oil is also fed to hogs and other livestock. In rural and urban areas ladies shampoo their hair with "Khal" for healthy hair as it keep luster.
Peanut is weight-reducing and anti-diabetic. Kills the bacteria in the mouth and serves as an exercise for teeth. Peanut according to the aroma-therapists is a good carrier for the dry skin. It is added as beauty aid in creams and lotions. It removes the facial freckles.
Peanut provides us a lot of nutrients like protein, carbohydrates, calcium, potassium, manganese, sodium, zinc, copper, iron, magnesium and vitamin C & D that are essential to keep us in good health. With all its good, eating peanut in excess can cause acidity in the stomach. It should, therefore, always be eaten in moderation to ward off its ill-effects.
