Prices of essential kitchen items registered a reduction during this week as compared to the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday. According to the survey details, prices of most of the vegetables, eggs, chicken and fruits during this week came down, while the prices of nonperishable daily use items including rice, spices, pulses, wheat flour and others remained stable.
Chicken price came down from Rs 4,500 to Rs 4,300 per 40kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 135 against Rs 145 per kg, while chicken meat is being sold at Rs 200 against Rs 220 per kg. Eggs are being sold at Rs 130 against Rs 140 per dozen.
The price of a box of tomatoes weighing 15kg decreased from Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,100 and onions' price from Rs 350 to Rs 250 per 5kg, while potatoes price went up from Rs 170 to Rs 200 per 5kg. In the retail market, onions are being sold at Rs 60 against Rs 80 per kg, tomatoes are available at Rs 100 against Rs 120 per kg and potatoes at Rs 50 against Rs 45 per kg.
Price of various qualities of garlic remained unchanged as local garlic is being sold at Rs 400 per 5kg, while Chinese garlic is being sold at Rs 600 per kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120-150 per kg. Ginger price went down from Rs 500 to Rs 450 per 5kg which in the retail market is being sold at Rs 120 per kg. During the week under review, prices of all range of nonperishable kitchen items remained stable as best quality rice is available at Rs 130 per kg, a bag of wheat weighing 20kg is available at Rs 750 and sugar at Rs 60 per kg. Prices of all the major pulses remained unchanged as white lentil (Maash) is being sold at Rs 180 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 200 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 120-140 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 120 per kg and red lentils (Masoor) at Rs 110 per kg.
Spinach price went down from Rs 100 per 5kg to Rs 80 per 5kg in wholesales market while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 15 per bundle and mint price went up from Rs 70 per 5kg to Rs 80 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 15 per bundle. Capsicum price went down from Rs 450 per 5kg to Rs 400 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 100 per kg against Rs 120 per kg; peas price went down from Rs 750 per 5kg to Rs 700 per 5kg in wholesales market, which in retail were being sold at Rs 170 per kg; and taro's (arvi) price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 50 per kg; carrot price went down from Rs 130 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 40 per kg; and a pack of 8kg radish price further went down from Rs 120 per pack to Rs 100 per pack which in retail market was being sold at Rs 25 per kg.
Okra price went up from Rs 250 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 60 per kg; price of ridge gourd (tori) went down from Rs 270 per 5kg to Rs 240 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 65 per kg against Rs 70 per kg. Cauliflower price went up from Rs 100 per 5kg to Rs 120 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 35 per kg against Rs 30 per kg and cabbage price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 170 per 5kg, which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
Brinjal price went up from Rs 150 per 5kg to Rs 200 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 40 per kg, cucumber price remained stable at Rs 200 per 5kg, while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 50 per kg.
Prices of the fruits witnessed a decline as good quality banana price went down from Rs 70 per dozen to Rs 60 per dozen and normal quality banana was being sold in the range of at Rs 40-50 per dozen. Guava price remained stable at Rs 60 per kg and normal quality guava at Rs 40 per kg. Pomegranate price remained stable at Rs 1,600 per box of 16kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 150 per kg. New arrival various qualities of oranges are available in the range of Rs 70 per dozen to Rs 120 per dozen.
Normal quality white apple was being sold at Rs 60 per kg, Kala Kalu at Rs 100 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg, Chinese apple at Rs 200 per kg and Iranian apple was available at Rs 200 per kg, while various qualities of grapes were being sold in the range of Rs 90 to Rs 200 per kg.
