The managing director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Syed Wamiq Bokhari inaugurated company-funded block at Centre of Excellence for Deaf (CED) on Thursday. PPL donated Rs 6.52 million for construction, furnishing and equipping the block at CED established by Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD) at Korangi Industrial Area. Officials from both organizations, including Co-president, PAD Irfan Mumtaz, were present at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Syed Wamiq Bokhari stressed on PPL's ongoing efforts for enabling the differently-abled individuals to be part of the mainstream. "We are committed to improving the quality of life for deserving communities, including those with specific needs, through projects in education, healthcare, livelihood generation and sports," he highlighted.
PAD, a member of World Federation of the Deaf, is a leading non-profit organization founded in 1987 to provide education and vocational training to hearing challenged individuals. Currently, PAD caters to over 2,000 members through its nationwide networks. Being a pioneer in developing primary education curriculum in sign language, PAD has played a pivotal role in enriching national sign language through research and development as well as publishing textbooks on various subject areas.
CED provides free-of-cost quality education, including vocational training, to the hearing impaired through deaf teaching staff, as a first, with required infrastructure and latest technology. PPL Block has classrooms for primary grades besides equipped computer lab as well as cooking and sewing/hand embroidery units to enable training and learning in these trades. Admissions are now open for interested individuals.-PR
