Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Thursday directed Sindh's Planning and Development Department to start inspecting the roads being built in the province through the Annual Development Programme and the Asian Development, Bank. At the same time, he asked the head of the maintenance and repairs (M&R) department to report to him. Addressing a meeting at the Chief Minister's House, he gave instructions to the P&D department to review the status of each scheme, including release of funds, utilization of funds, pace of work and quality of work.
The works department has launched 488 road sector schemes in which 396 are on-going and 92 are new. There are eight ongoing building schemes launched for Rs 228 million, against which Rs 65.404 million have been released. The Sindh minister of works, Imdad Pitafi, told the chief minister that 41 road sector schemes would be completed by next June. He added that nine schemes have been completed by October. Pitafi said that 13 road sector schemes would be completed by the end of December. Giving a presentation on the Sindh Provincial Road Improvement Project launched with the assistance of the Asian Development Bank, Pitafi said that work on the six roads under the project was in full swing.
The chief minister directed the P&D department to hold another meeting today (Friday) and review the status of each scheme so that they could be completed by the end of May.
