Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW): security arrangements for processions in twin cities finalized
Police of Rawalpindi and Islamabad have made elaborate security arrangements for the processions of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (SAW), which is being celebrated on Friday (today) with religious zeal and fervor. According to security plan, over 6,000 personnel of police, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and Rangers will perform security duties in twin cities on the occasion. "Out of 6,000 security personnel, 3,500 will be deployed in Rawalpindi while rest of them will be deployed in the federal capital," a police official said.
He said that main procession in the federal capital will be taken out from sector G-7 (Sitara Market) that will culminate near the shrine of Hazrat Sakhi Mehmud at Aabpara Market after passing through various routes, he said. Special security arrangements have been made for the security of main procession and strict patrolling would be ensured in other parts of the both cities. The official further said that strict directives have been issued to superintendents of police (SPs), sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and station house officers (SHOs) to ensure strict security in their jurisdictions.
The police officers including SPs will also visit various police posts along on the route of the procession for ensuring effective security. Special teams comprising commandoes of Special Branch, lady police, lady commandoes and Quick Response Force (QRF) personnel will also be present on the occasion. He said that policemen in plain clothes will also perform duties at busy shopping centers and public places to keep vigilant eye on car lifters and criminals. Similarly, Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) and Rawalpindi Traffic Police have devised special plans for the smooth flow of traffic and to ensure that road users do not face any inconvenience. Over 700 personnel of traffic police will be deployed in both the cities on the occasion.
A close liaison will be maintained with the organizers of the processions and other gatherings in the city while cooperation from the organizers with police will be ensured. Walkthrough gates will be installed at all the entry points of the procession while metal detectors will be used for checking of the participants. Meanwhile, bazaars, commercial shopping centers and public and private buildings have been illuminated with colorful lights in the twin cities.
