I had it in my mind that I will take ten wickets: Yasir Shah

Published Updated

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s ten-wicket star, Yasir Shah Tuesday said that he had it in his mind that he will take ten wickets in a Test inning, but he did not know that he will do it on the same day.

“When I left the hotel in the morning, I had it in my mind that I will take ten wickets, but did not know that I will do it in a single day,” he said while talking to private news channel.

Yasir Shah ran riot against the Kiwis in the second Test as he took eight wickets for 41 runs in the first inning followed by two wickets in the second inning on the same day, conceding 65 runs.

He became the first Pakistani to take ten wickets in a single day, while he became the only second leg-spinner after Anil Kumble, who achieved the feat in 1999 against Pakistan.

Shah is optimistic to get the Blackcaps out on the fourth day of the Test and level the three-match Test series by 1-1.

“We have a plan to bowl in the right channel on the fourth day and wrap up the Test,” he said. “The pitch is helpful, there is spin and bounce, so we are hopeful to win the game.”

Pakistan scored 418/5d in the first inning and restricted the visitors to just 90 runs. Following on, New Zealand are 132/2, trailing by 197 runs.

Haris Sohail and Babar Azam scored centuries in the game, while Azhar Ali struck 81 runs for Pakistan.
