Customs values of different IT gadgets, e-devices increased

Directorate General Customs Valuation (DGCV) has increased the customs values of different IT gadgets and electronics devices. According to separate revised valuation rulings, the Directorate in order to determine the customs values of USB, flash drive, keyboard, computer mouse and MP3 shuffle players of different brands with its accessories called a meeting and asked the stakeholders to submit relevant documents.
During the course of meeting, the importers were of the view that the value of USB Data Traveler/USB Flash Drive of China origin has reduced in the international market as compared to the values determined in the existing valuation ruling therefore, the values needed downward revision.
They were requested to submit import invoices, sales tax invoices, literature, evidences and other relevant requisite import documents in support of their contentions. However, they did not provide any documents or evidence to substantiate their contentions. During the meeting they have also stated that USB Data Traveler/USB flash-drive are being smuggled and it is not possible to the importers to survive in the local market.
Similarly, the importers of keyboard and mouse also requested downward revision, due to same reason but failed to produce documents to support it. Later, the Directorate has conducted market survey and gathered all information to determine the customs duties of said imported gadgets and devices.
Now, the keyboard with wire (Low End Brands) origin from China will be cleared at $1.10 per piece and other origins at $1.5 per piece, keyboard and mouse wireless set (Low End Brands) from China at $4.0 per piece, other origins at $5.5 per piece and mouse with wire (Low End Brands) from China at $0.75 per piece and other origins at $1.15 per piece.
Similarly, MP3 Shuffle Player (Low End Brands) from China will be cleared at $1.50 per piece and other origins at $2.30 per piece while the customs duty on USB Data Traveler/USB Flash Drives from China and other with storage capacity from 4GB to 256 GB will be in between $1 to $26.62 per piece.
