Punjab Minister for Industries, Trade and Investment Sheikh Alauddin would be the chief guest at the inaugural session of the two-day second SME international conference being organised by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) on Wednesday (today) in collaboration with University of Management and Technology (UMT).
Federal Minister Industries and Production Ghulam Murtaza Khan Jatoi would address the conference at concluding session. SME experts from USA, UK, Turkey, Japan, Italy, Malaysia, Netherlands, Germany and China will attend the event.
SMEDA Chief Executive Officer Sher Ayub while describing thematic areas of the conference said that basic theme of the conference this year is "Catalysing SME Growth through Research". Under this theme, the conference will deliberate four sub-thematic areas - developing a conducive business environment, local and international market development for SMEs, entrepreneurship and enterprise development and access to finance, he added.
He hoped that the conference's recommendations would be helpful in influencing policy reform and supporting the creation of a robust and best practice SME ecosystem in Pakistan. He said the conference is going to provide a platform to stakeholders including academia, researchers, SMEs, public and private sector representatives as well as international development agencies to share their experiences. Over 50 research papers from around 15 national and international universities were received for the conference however only 12 of these have been selected for a presentation in the conference.
