The Fata Grand Jirga Saturday rejected the merger of the tribal belt with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa saying that there are contradictions in the federal cabinet decision regarding Fata reforms. The Grand Jirga of the tribal elders was held under the auspices of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) in its Peshawar Secretariat. The Jirga was headed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and was attended by tribal politicians and youths.
Addressing the Jirga, Fazlur Rehman said that he will not accept the decision of merging the tribal belt with KP, saying that there was no peace and business activity in the tribal areas. "Tribal people follow me and I will not accept the merger of the tribal belt with KP," he said.
Opposing KP-Fata merger, he said that the decision will further increase problems of the tribal people. "There are flaws in Rewaj Act and representation of the tribal belt has also not given in provincial assembly in upcoming election. Talking to mediapersons, a tribal elder Malak Khan Marjan said: "We will launch campaign against Fata merger with KP. We ask our MNAs and Senators to submit resignations in protest against the proposed merger. We are united."
