Sima Kamil has resigned from HBL and is likely to head UBL, Pakistan''s 3rd largest bank, it is reliably learnt. Sima Kamil heads the Board of Governors of Karachi Grammar School. She holds a Masters degree from City of London and ran HBL''s Branch Banking which included Retail, Commercial and Agriculture finance. She had come to HBL from Grindlays, now Standard Chartered Bank. Previously she had also worked for American Express Banking Corporation.
With over 1700 branches and assets of over Rs 2.4 trillion HBL is the largest bank in Pakistan. The President of UBL was Wajahat Hussain whose contract was due to be renewed in May and not renewed as CEO and therefore, he is expected to leave UBL alongwith two Senior Executiveswho were also on contract. Sima Kamil would be first woman president of any bank in Pakistan. According to a circular issued by HBL management which says:
"Sima Kamil, Head Branch Banking, will be leaving the bank after a 16 years association with HBL. Sima has played a critical role in the transformation and growth of the Bank whilst being involved in leading both the Corporate Bank as well as Branch Banking.
During the course of her career with HBL, Sima demonstrated exemplary leadership. She has been a valuable and respected member of the Management Committee and who, through sheer focus, merit and transparency, contributed towards building the Bank''s businesses in various market segments. Under her leadership, the Bank won several awards, including ''Best Retail Bank''.
Sima was also a role model for women empowerment both within the Bank and outside. She very successfully championed the cause of women through supporting, mentoring and developing women and bringing women entrepreneurs into the financial inclusion fold. She also set up and launched the internationally recognised and highly successful women''s market programme - HBL Nisa. Furthermore, Sima is also very active in supporting a number of community and social causes.
As Sima moves to another financial institution in a leadership role, it is a matter of pride for HBL that our senior executives are considered as the best in the market. We take this opportunity to wish her success in her new endeavours. On behalf of the Board, Management Committee and all HBL staff, we thank her for her contributions to HBL, which will be remembered for times to come."
