Chairman Kashmir Council Europe (EU), Ali Raza Syed arrived in Islamabad on Thursday on a visit to Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. He is visiting Pakistan at the time when most recently Kashmir Council EU held hallmark event of 'Kashmir-EU Week' at European Parliament in capital city of Belgium, a statement said.
Member of EU parliament (MEPs) Sajjad Karim, Raja Afzal Khan and Friends of Kashmir Group in EU parliament were hosts of the programme. The week long programme on Kashmir was organised by the Council, International Council for Human Development (ICHD) with the collaboration of some other organisations. Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan was chief guest of the event.
AJK's Senior Minister Chaudhry Tariq Farooq and MLA Raja Javed Iqbal also participated in the celebrations. People from different walks of life including MEPs, EU officials, intellectuals and experts attended the program. During his stay in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir, Mr Ali Raza Syed will have meetings with the political figures and will inform them regarding struggle on Kashmir issue in Europe specially awareness movement of Kashmir Council EU through various programs on the issue.
The 'Kashmir Council EU' program also included an Exhibition of Kashmiri handicrafts and photographs, International Conferences and various seminars, debates and meetings with the Members of EU Parliament (MEPs) and officials of European Union. On his arrival in Pakistan, Ali Raza Syed said, "Aim of the annual event was to raise awareness in Europe of the evolving situation in Kashmir, especially at the time when India increased its brutalities in Kashmir and as well it created a deadlock in negotiation with Pakistan on Kashmir issue."
He said, "We have informed the international community specially EU regarding recent uprising and use of brutal force by Indian forces in Indian Held Kashmir as a large number of people in IHK killed, wounded and lost their eyes due to pellet guns in last four and half months." "The Kashmir EU-Week was an opportunity to examine the implications of the dispute for a global peace and security and to define a role for Europe in promoting a peaceful resolution of the conflict."
