The Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) took the oath of their offices at a ceremony organized at Mehran Arts Council here on Tuesday. The Returning Officer Qamaruddin Shaikh administered the oath to the elected Mayor Syed Tayyab Hussain and Deputy Mayor Sohail Mashhadi on the occasion.
Sindh Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Deputy Commissioner Mutassam Abbassi, other government officials and representatives of the civil society and political parties in addition to the leaders and workers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) attended the event. A large number of the elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the union committees (UCs) of the HMC were also present.
Meanwhile, District Council Hyderabad's elected Chairman Badar Memon and Vice Chairman Bilal Laghari took the oath of their offices from the RO Shakil Abro at a ceremony which took place at the District Council Building. The Sindh Local Government Minister and other officials, besides a large number of elected chairmen, vice chairmen and ward councillors of the District Council, leaders and supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) attended the ceremony. At a separate ceremony at Mumtaz Mirza Auditorium, the RO Ghulam Murtaza Memon administered oath to the elected Chairman Kashif Shoro and Vice Chairman Iqbal Soomro of Qasimabad Municipal Committee.
