The Punjab Agriculture Department (PAD) advising the cotton growers to carry out twice a week pest scouting of their crop has said that current spell of monsoon rains has increased the incidents of pest attacks. Pest Warning wing's report stated that it had observed five hot spots of white fly, 3 each of mealy bug and army worm, 16 of Jassid and two of pink bollworm in cotton growing Sahiwal, Pakpattan and Okara Districts. According to the report 14 hot spots of cotton leaf curl virus have also been observed.
The experts while advising twice a week pest scouting have also suggested that the growers should use new pesticides in consultation with the local agriculture experts. They also urged the growers not to panic on cotton leaf curl virus attack rather they should improve crop's look after, use nitrogen based fertilizers and ensure timely eradication of weed.
