Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak said here on Saturday that the provincial government had not barred the Ehtisab Commission from arresting anyone and the purpose of amending the law was to inform the assembly after arrest. Speaking at a news conference, the chief minister said the KP government had established the Ehtesab Commission for fair and transparent accountability of the corrupt and no other province had taken such a step.
The legislation was carried out to end differences among the Commission's director general and its members, he said. The CM categorically stated that the legislation was not aimed at informing the government before arrest of any important person rather the commission was asked to inform the provincial assembly in case of any arrest.
According to original law, the commission could get remand of any accused for 35 days, which after amendment had been reduced to 15 days. The chief minister said that legislation also asked the commission to initiate corruption cases on solid evidences, not on any anonymous application. Expressing reservations over recruitment's in the commission, he announced to carry out scrutiny of the same. "NAB officials will be answerable to Speaker, Chief Secretary and CM Offices about arrests", said Khattak.
