The prices of essential kitchen items including different quality rice, ghee/cooking oil and vegetables have witnessed a decline, while pulses and sugar witnessed an increase during this past week as compared to the proceeding week, a survey conducted by Business Recorder revealed. The survey observed decline in different quality rice available in the range of Rs 40 per kg to Rs 130 per kg, which were being sold in the range of Rs 60 to Rs 150 per kg a few weeks ago.
Retailers have increased the prices of pulses which in wholesales market last week witnessed a reduction and are being still traded at same rates. Mash pulse in being sold at Rs 250 per kg against Rs 240 per kg, Masoor at Rs 140 per kg against Rs 130 per kg, Moong at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 150 per kg, gram in the range of Rs 120 to Rs 140 per kg against Rs 110-120 per kg, white Lobia at Rs 120 per kg against Rs 110 per kg, while red and black Lobia in the range of Rs 120-130 per kg against Rs 110-120 per kg.
Good quality ghee/cooking oil brands like Dalda, Habib, Tullo are being sold at Rs 840 per 5 kg pack against Rs 870 per 5 kg pack, while normal quality ghee/cooking oil including Phool, Fuji and others are being sold at Rs 600 per 5 kg pack. Sugar prices witnessed an upward trend as sugar is being sold at Rs 3,100 per 50 kg bag in wholesales market against Rs 2,900 per 50 kg bag, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 62 per kg.
In wholesale market branded tea pack prices have witnessed a reduction following a reduction in international market but retailers are selling the commodity at old prices as Lipton Yellow Label a kg tea pack is being sold at Rs 820 which has reduced to Rs 670 per pack. In wholesale non-branded tea prices have reduced by Rs 100 per kg which is being sold at Rs 580 per kg against Rs 680 per kg, but in retail market no change was observed.
Last week in wholesales market prices of Mash, Masoor and gram pulses reduced in the range of Rs 100-500 per quintal as Mash is available at Rs 17,000 per quintal, Masoor at Rs 15,000 per quintal and gram at Rs 8,000 per quintal, while there is no change in the price of Moong pulse.
There was no change observed in the prices of chicken as live chicken in wholesales market is being sold at Rs 4,200 per 40 kg, which in retail market is available at Rs 130-140 per kg. The prices of an entire range of vegetables remained stable as onion is being sold at Rs 30-35 per kg, tomatoes are being sold at Rs 40 per kg in retail market and potatoes at Rs 20 per kg. Ginger is available at Rs 160 per kg, while garlic at Rs 220 per kg.
Peas price went up by Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 150 per 5 kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 50 per kg and spinach is being sold at Rs 60 per 5 kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 20 per kg. No change was witnessed in green chili price which is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, lemon at Rs 80 per kg, Maithi at Rs 20 per kg, reddish art Rs 30 per kg, turnip at Rs 30 per kg, carrot at Rs 20-30 per kg, cucumber at Rs 60 per kg which has witnessed a reduction of Rs 20 per kg, okra at Rs 120 per kg with a reduction of Rs 10 per kg.
Cabbage and cauliflower are being sold at Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesales market, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 20-25 per kg. Capsicum price went up by Rs 100 per 5 kg in wholesales market from Rs 200 per kg to Rs 300 per kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 60 per kg.
Tori is available at Rs 65 per kg, Arvi at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 80 per kg and Kaddu with a reduction of Rs 10 per kg from Rs 60 per kg to Rs 50 per kg. There is no change in the price of beef and mutton as boneless beef is being sold at Rs 450 per kg and mixed beef at Rs 380 per kg, mutton at Rs 700 per kg. Sugar is being sold at Rs 60 per kg.
Fruit prices remained stable during the week under review as good quality local banana is available at Rs 80 per dozen, while normal quality banana is being sold in the range of Rs 40-60 per dozen. Good quality apples are being sold at Rs 150 per kg, while normal quality is available in the range of Rs 50 to Rs 100 per kg, good quality kinnows are being sold at Rs 150 per dozen, while normal quality is available in the range of Rs 40 to Rs 100 per dozen. Good quality guava is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, while normal quality is being sold at Rs 50-70 per kg.
